I Left My Heart in Detroit Lakes, MN

I spent two weeks in Detroit Lakes, MN with my other beloved baby brother, Aaron.

It was time well spent.

I was very happy to discover that DL is a station stop on Amtrak's Empire Builder.

I was not quite so happy to rediscover the wintry weather.  Brrrrr.

I left my heart in Detroit Lakes -- both Aaron and Jacob, my bros.

We will always love you, Jacob.

Catch Me On Freethought Radio This Weekend

Catch me talking on Freethought Radio this weekend (or catch the podcast on Monday on FFRF's website), talking about secularism, France, burqas, women's rights, Islam, the First Amendment, Ni Putes Ni Soumises, etc., etc..  You know, the usual.  With Annie Laurie and Dan, the Co-Presidents of the Freedom From Religion Foundation.

Home

I'm taking you home.

I'm taking you up north, to scatter your ashes over the graves of our ancestors.

You will spend eternity with the ones who came before us, in the place they made for us.

I will always love you, Jacob.

Nine Months

It's been nine months.

Nine months since you took your life and shattered my heart into a million little pieces.

And, I still don't know how to live without you.

And, I don't want to know.

I will always love you, Jacob.

Team Jenougher!

I have decided that Jenougher's "fight" this week was a re-imagining of her training scenes with Patrick Swayze in Dirty Dancing.

I'll admit it.  I'm totally hooked on DWTS this season.

And, it's all because of Jennifer Grey.

Go Team Baby Derek!

My Cup Runneth Over

I am overwhelmed with sadness today, and it is spilling out of my eyes.

But, it is a kind of pleasure to spend the day mourning my baby brother.

I will always love you, Jacob.

Small Talk

Tonight I used the phrase "apocalyptic eschatological phantasmagorias" in casual (while undeniably trippy) conversation.

I think I'm ready for the GRE!

I Love the Constitution!

I can't remember the last time I laughed so hard.

I think I should sue them for invasion of privacy.

Vive la Femme!

Thank you, French Constitutional Council, for standing up for women everywhere!  Thank you for saying no to gender apartheid and gender segregation and gender inequality and gender slavery.

Thank you for saying yes to secularism and gender equality and gender desegregation.

Thank you for saying yes to democracy and human rights and equal protection of the law.

Thank you for saying yes to the French law against identity obscuring face masks in the public space.

I Would Not Die For You

I have decided that it is much harder to not die and not kill for someone whom you have loved and lost than it is to die and kill for him.

But, I would do anything for you, Jacob.

Anything.  Even withstand the pain.  Because I'm your big sister.

If only I could do something to bring you back.

I will always love you, Jacob.

I Left My Heart in DC

I will always love you, Jacob.

You will spend eternity guarding over our great national monuments in Washington DC.

Everywhere I go, baby brother, you will be with me.

The whole world will be your final resting place.  All of the most beautiful and wonderful places in the whole wide world.

You deserve nothing less.

Your big sister is taking care of you.

Remembrance of Things Past

Tell yourself this, too, for it is a kind of pleasure to know that you will never love less, that you will never be consoled, that you will constantly remember more and more. -- Proust

I will always love you, Jacob.  I will never be consoled.

Thank you, French Senate!

Thank you to the French Senate for standing up for women everywhere!

I hope more countries follow France's example and say no to gender apartheid and gender segregation and gender slavery in the public space and say yes to gender equality and secularism and the full recognition of the humanity of women!

Woo hoo!  Go France!

I Left My Heart in Montreal

I will always love you, Jacob.

You will spend eternity in the Saint Lawrence River in the Old Port of Montreal.
